Google have suspended Element in the Play Store without notifying us; we're reaching out to find out what's going on. Apologies for the inconvenience; in the interim there's f-droid.org/en/packages/im.v… but it's a few versions behind. We'll post updates here.

We're still awaiting feedback. Meanwhile, if it's urgent and you're comfortable installing unsigned APKs, you can grab the latest build from our CI at buildkite.com/matrix-dot-org… (click on the Artifacts tab to see the APKs).

Morning all. We've had contact from Google confirming that the suspension is due to abusive content somewhere on Matrix; we're working with them to explain how Element works and get the situation resolved.

We've sent a full explanation of Element and Matrix to the Google Play Store Policy team as of 11:44 UTC and we're waiting for a response. Meanwhile we've published a blog post on the situation which we'll keep updated as it evolves: element.io/blog/element-on-g…

Update: we just got a call from a Google VP who explained the suspension was triggered by a report of extremely abusive content accessible on the matrix.org server. Our trust & safety team had already acted on it, and the app should be reinstated shortly.

...and the app is back: play.google.com/store/apps/d…. Huge thanks to everyone for your patience and support on this, and apologies for the inconvenience. Thanks also to Google for being transparent and apologetic once we'd established contact. Now, back to preparing for @FOSDEM!

I'm curious, Apple's not giving you the same treatment with the iOS app, are they?

Google has just too much power to decide to remove your app without at least sending you a removal notice... that's really mean from them.

I for one don't blame you guys at all. It's happening all over and for various reasons. This was not done in error. It is an orchestrated attack against everyone, and open source is their biggest threat.
